Recently, Oregon passed two bills that impact insurance coverage for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Senate Bill 1, Mental Health Parity, includes Pervasive Developmental Disorders as defined in the DSM lV-TR. House Bill 2918, also a mandate, expands the definition of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) and defines PDD as a neurological condition.
Oregon's Mental Health Parity Law took effect on January 1, 2007 for new group health insurance policies and, for renewal policies, the first renewal date after January 1, 2007. HB 2918, the mandate for Pervasive Developmental Disorders, took effect on January 1, 2008 for new individual and group health insurance policies and, for renewal policies, the first renewal date after January 1, 2008. (Please ask your insurance company if you don't know when these laws went into effect in your policy.)
Senate Bill 1, Oregon's Mental Health Parity Law, applies to group health insurance policies. House Bill 2918 applies to both group and individual policies. If you don't know what kind of plan you have, please ask your insurance company. If your health insurance is through a self insured employer, these laws do not apply to your plan. (Types of insurance plans.)

Thank you to two mothers, one in Indiana, and one in California for creating websites to help families gain health insurance coverage for autism treatments. Their sites were the inspiration for this one.
